CAPTURE TO COMPUTER  

A series of two-day workshops combining the skills of capturing the image in-camera, transferring it onto computer and the subsequent workflow of that image to your final destination.  

The workshops are for up to eight students and a laptop computer is provided for each student for the duration of the workshop. Photoshop Elements 5 is used as the editing software but the techniques are easily transferable onto the Photoshop creative suites.

CAPTURE TO COMPUTER - Level 1

Venue: Woods Mill, Henfield

The aim of this workshop is to give the beginner or intermediate photographer a solid foundation of understanding of the overall process of digital imaging.

It is an entirely hands-on workshop with two instructors and covers many areas such as:

  • Exposure
  • Image formats
  • RAW conversion
  • Interpreting histograms
  • Sharpening
  • Resolution
  • Colour correction
  • Contrast adjustment
  • Introduction to layers

It takes place at Woods Mill , Sussex Wildlife Trust headquarters, using both the classroom and the reserve for fieldwork.

CAPTURE TO COMPUTER - Level 2

Venue: The British Wildlife Centre & Woods Mill

The aim of this workshop is to advance the imaging process introduced at Level 1.

For day 1 we shoot at the fantastic British Wildlife Centre on subjects such as: barn owls, foxes, Scottish wildcats and many more species, with unrestricted and exclusive close-up access. Day 2 is held at Woods Mill, the headquarters of Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Areas covered will include

  • Layers
  • Masking tools and techniques
  • Blending modes
  • Clipping masks
  • Dodging and burning
  • Non destructive sharpening
  • Composition
  • Shooting live subjects
  • Using built-in flash
  • Controlling the background

It is advised that the Level 1 Capture to Computer workshop has been completed before going onto Level 2 but please email me if you feel it would be ideal for you.

Guidelines and terms

Courses operate on a minimum of four people. Price indicated is per person. To confirm a booking payment must be received within five days. Once booked and confirmed, no refunds will be possible within one month of the respective course date.

An information sheet will be emailed closer to the course date, this may be updated to cater for changes in the conditions at the site or the species' behaviour.

Please be aware that although a lot of care will have been taken to find subjects prior to each respective course there are, unfortunately, no guarantees with wildlife or with the weather.
