This workshop is aimed to teach the photographer the basic skills required photograph birds, especially from hides. The photographer will learn through a mix of indoor tutorials interspersed with up to 3 hours in hides.
Essentials taught are:
- Camera Basics
- Equipment Required
- Camera Settings
- Focusing Techniques
- Hide Set-up and Discipline
- Bait and Perch Technique
- Manipulating Behaviour
- Fill-In Flash
Although no species can be guaranteed, over 15 species are regular visitors to the hides including great spotted woodpecker, goldfinches on teasel heads, and maybe a sparrowhawk!
Group size is small – a maximum of three people per workshop. This workshop is an excellent follow-on from the Beginners photography workshop taught through the Wildlife Trust, or for the photographer who just has a passion for photographing birds.
You will need a lens of at least 300 mm and a tripod for this workshop. See below for lens and equipment hire.

Bespoke one-to-one workshops are also available at £345 per person on a mutually agreeable date.
500 mm Nikon and Canon lenses are available for hire, as well as tripods sturdy enough to support them.
