This is a long-established hide and has a near 100% record of achieving full-frame shots of great spotted woodpecker on carefully chosen logs and branches, with a good clean background.
Sparrowhawk is a frequent visitor to this hide, drawn by the avian activity, however, being a raptor of this type, there are no guarantees of this spectacular bird of prey. One photographer has had a sparrowhawk perched for 25 minutes, and another had a woodpecker taken as prey.
Other birds such as tits, nuthatches and finches will also provide entertainment.
This hide is available from 1st October to 31st March each year.
A 300mm lens is the minimum requirement for this hide
Due to the nature of woodpeckers and their acuity to movement, this hide is for 1 photographer and is only available on an exclusive basis.
