Woodpeckers and Nuthatches
See below for available dates
Venue: Scrag Copse
Having run many woodland bird's workshops, I get a lot of requests to photograph the great spotted woodpeckers and nuthatches; after all they are very dynamic and photogenic, although a little tricky to photograph!
Therefore, on this workshop, we ignore the other woodland species to purely concentrate on great spotted woodpecker and nuthatches, setting up natural perches for them to pose on for you. I can normally lure these birds to within 3 or 4 metres of photographers although this does require more hide discipline than the other less fickle species but this does result in much greater chances of success. There are less general shooting opportunities and a little more waiting but the results can be spectacular.
The workshop starts with a discussion on bird behaviour and how we manipulate that to suit our needs. Fundamentals such as exposure and camera settings are also covered.
This course is limited to a maximum of four people. A minimum focal length lens of 300mm is required as well as a tripod.
This workshop is suited to those who are already familiar with shooting small woodland birds and wish to patiently spend more time capturing images of just two species. If you are new to small bird photography, the Woodland Bird’s workshop is recommended first.’
Please, also be aware that due to the fact that all the shots on Woodland Birds, Woodpeckers & Nuthatches and Badger photography workshops have been set up by David Plummer, using extensive baiting, hide positioning, provision of perches etc that copyright of all images taken on these workshops remain the property of David Plummer. In essence, a photographer can do whatever they like with their images within the private sphere; however, if these images are offered for sale, the copyright belongs to David Plummer.
Why I retain Copyright on Badger Photography & Woodland Birds’ Workshops
Species and bird behaviour may vary based on conditions and guarantees of shots cannot be given.
"To photograph a great spotted woodpecker from a few metres was an incredible experience and one I'd happily recommend to anyone"
